I remember writing at my first Desigual show a couple of years ago that what immediately struck me was how happy the models looked on the runway, and how their positive energy really helped to ignite the beauty in the collection. Having had the opportunity to go backstage this season, I now know why this is the case. The Barcelona-based label puts a real emphasis on positivity; there are smiley faces everywhere, and for the two hours leading up to the show everyone did their part to make the models feel as upbeat as possible. The Desigual backstage was a carbon copy of what’s seen on the runway—these aren’t smoke and mirrors. (I’ve never been backstage at a show before with designers saying things to models like, “You’re doing great! Today’s gonna be a great show!”) They almost double as a pep-team, and it’s an infectious behaviour that really rubs off on everyone in the room. If only more workplaces could be like this.
