So here’s one of those designers who’s always been on the London schedule, whose shows I’ve always missed due to schedule conflict—the kind where you opt to see a brand you know over a brand you don’t, just because. If you look back through the previous Jasper Conran catalogues, you’ll find a designer who has spent the past decade positively finding his way through incremental confidence gains. While I mentally separate the designers who put value on creativity from the ones who put value on wearability (where I tend to lean, personally), Jasper Conran is one of those designers who seems ambidextrous on both sides of the fence. It’s a quality more rare than one would think.
The new Jasper Conran FW15 is lights out good. In fact, I think it’s one of the finest collections I’ve seen on the runway in terms of an executed vision that really speaks to the spirit of its intended season. On dead autumn leaves, the models glided down the runway, one by one, in looks that just nailed mid-October. The collection also seems versatile enough, ranging from the office to the cocktail party to an afternoon Sunday stroll. I’m particularly keen on the fit of the jumpers and pleated skirts.
