Standing on the corner in stripes,
Stripes stripes stripes,
It’s like she has something to say. No statement so much as announcement. The softness of some of these looks allows it to perfectly wedge itself into the whole Ready-to-Wear zone; still, there’s something stand-outish about this collection that makes it difficult for me to place where it belongs. Fashion Week Wear for Fashion Week, perhaps, and I don’t mean this in a bad way. She’s the kind of woman who gets snapped up by 50 photographers outside the shows for ten minutes; the kind of woman who gets stopped and street-styled every time she steps out of the house. But these pieces don’t really scream trendy in the high street sense—there’s more sophistication here. For me, the striped pieces feel essential enough, but I’m a bigger fan of the plain looks (personal bias), but more importantly, how Paul Smith manages to get two pieces in a single look to work so well together.
